圖書館也零碳

美國Redmond Library近日正式取得LEED Platinum（能源與環境設計領導認證）最高等級白金級認證，凸顯其在永續建築與能源管理上的領先地位。

The Redmond Library has officially received LEED Platinum status, highlighting its leadership in sustainable building design and energy performance.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is the world’s most widely used green building rating system, evaluating metrics such as energy efficiency, water usage, material selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Opened in early 2025, the library was designed as a net-zero energy building, powered entirely by an on-site rooftop solar photovoltaic system. Library Director Todd Dunkelberg stated that the facility represents one of the most comprehensive high-performance public libraries in the United States, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability.

圖書館管理單位指出，該館於2025年初啟用，採用淨零能源（net-zero energy）設計，透過屋頂太陽能光電系統自給所有用電需求。圖書館館長Todd Dunkelberg表示，此設計使其成為全美性能最完整的高效能公共圖書館之一，展現公共建設對永續發展的承諾。

Despite nearly doubling its floor area compared to the previous building, the library significantly reduced energy consumption. Annual electricity use dropped from 276 MWh to 57 MWh - an approximately 80% reduction - even while incorporating additional demand such as EV charging.

數據顯示，該館在建築面積較舊館幾乎翻倍的情況下，能源效率仍大幅提升。其年度用電量由原本的276 MWh降至57 MWh，降幅接近80%，並已納入電動車充電用電需求。

根據USGBC資料，建築部門約占美國碳排放的40%，而LEED認證建築平均可降低34%碳排、節省25%能源與11%用水，並已累計減少超過8,000萬噸廢棄物進入掩埋場。

According to the USGBC, buildings account for nearly 40% of U.S. carbon emissions. LEED-certified buildings, on average, achieve 34% lower CO₂ emissions, consume 25% less energy and 11% less water, and have diverted more than 80 million tons of waste from landfills.

Deschutes公共圖書館體系表示，透過將新建案全面導入LEED標準，包括Redmond與Bend中央圖書館，期望提升整體社區生活品質，並建立公共設施永續發展的示範案例。

Deschutes Public Library officials noted that integrating LEED standards across new projects, including the Redmond Library and the upcoming Central Library in Bend, is part of a broader effort to enhance community well-being and sustainability outcomes.

圖書館董事會主席Ann Malkin指出，淨零能源公共圖書館在美國仍屬少數，Redmond圖書館的成功可作為全國其他公共機構的參考藍圖。

Board President Ann Malkin emphasized that net-zero energy public libraries remain rare in the U.S., positioning the Redmond Library as a model for future public infrastructure.

此外，該館亦獲American Library Association及地方建築獎項肯定，顯示其在設計創新、環境友善與社區影響力上的綜合價值。

The facility has also received recognition from the American Library Association and regional building awards, underscoring its achievements in design innovation, environmental performance, and community impact.
