The European Commission has selected 85 innovative net-zero projects and allocated 4.8 billion euros in subsidies from the Innovation Fund to accelerate the promotion of clean technologies across Europe. This funding scale is the largest since the fund was established. Since its creation in 2020, the total funding amount of the Innovation Fund has increased to 12 billion euros, and the number of projects has increased by 70%.

The projects are spread across 18 countries and cover a variety of industries, including energy-intensive industries, renewable energy, energy storage, industrial carbon management, net-zero mobility and construction. They are expected to be operational by 2030 and reduce approximately 476 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in its first decade.

3. Industrial carbon management: These projects will capture and store carbon dioxide in industries that are difficult to reduce emissions, and are expected to store at least 50 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.

These projects will significantly contribute to the EU's climate goals and strengthen Europe's global technology leadership. The European Commission plans to launch the next round of solicitation for innovation fund project proposals in early December 2024.
