Compassionate Carbon has formed a strategic partnership with global nonprofit Eden: People+Planet to launch large-scale climate solutions that help companies, investors and governments substantially reduce their carbon footprints. As an Eden subsidiary, Compassionate Carbon will draw on nearly two decades of experience to expand high-quality nature-based carbon-credit projects and support sustainability goals.

Eden has long developed high-quality carbon-credit projects that support emissions-reduction and carbon-removal objectives, meet investment needs and advance nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement.

Eden's projects go beyond carbon reduction alone. They address multiple dimensions of social and ecological development and seek to deliver lasting social, economic and biodiversity benefits to local communities. Activities commonly include ecosystem restoration, local job creation and measures that advance equity and inclusion.

Multiple benefits and future prospects of the partnership

Compassionate Carbon Chief Executive Tate Mill said the partnership with Eden will give corporate partners access to up to 50 million tonnes of additional high-quality nature-based carbon credits. The supply will be developed progressively through future projects and is intended to support emissions-reduction goals.

Mill said the partnership would provide corporate partners with substantial new resources and create attractive opportunities for financial partners. More importantly, the projects are intended to reflect Eden's core approach by expanding economic opportunity in local communities, strengthening biodiversity and materially reducing atmospheric carbon.

A partnership model: The Microsoft case

The announcement follows an earlier carbon-removal agreement between Catona and Microsoft. Under a six-year agreement reached in February, Microsoft will purchase 350,000 tonnes of carbon-removal credits generated by an agroforestry project in Kenya as it works toward becoming carbon negative by 2030. The project provides a reference for future cooperation between business and society.

As climate risks intensify, Compassionate Carbon and Eden aim to become a stronger force for global sustainable development. Their partnership will focus on more effective nature-based climate solutions with greater social impact, enabling companies, investors and governments to participate while balancing environmental, economic and social benefits.

The stated goal is to use cooperation and innovation to support coexistence between people and nature.

Lai Yu-Wei of Think Sustainability Consulting said the partnership demonstrates the potential for global nonprofits and commercial partners to advance climate action together while combining environmental protection with economic value. In Taiwan, government net-zero policies and growing corporate attention to ESG are encouraging more organisations to integrate sustainability into business operations. Technology companies such as TSMC have expanded renewable-energy procurement and carbon-neutrality initiatives, while manufacturers are adopting circular-economy models to reduce resource use and carbon footprints. Banks and investment institutions are also promoting green finance to support renewable energy and low-carbon transition projects.
