The European Commission officially announced that the new construction project of the Joint Research Center (JRC) in Seville, Spain, is about to start. The construction contract was awarded to two well-known construction companies, Constructora San José S.A. and Sociedad Española de Montajes Industriales S.A. The European Commission said: "This building will set a new benchmark for future large-scale public construction, demonstrating how to achieve the perfect combination of innovation and sustainability while taking into account practicality."

The interior spaces of the new building have been designed with future flexibility in mind. Multifunctional offices, meeting spaces and social areas are set up to provide staff with an efficient and comfortable working environment, while having the ability to quickly adjust to new needs.

In terms of the selection of building materials, the project strongly advocates environmental friendliness and local characteristics, using locally produced limestone, wood and ceramic materials. This not only greatly reduces the carbon emissions caused by long-distance transportation, but also displays the traditional architectural aesthetics of the Seville area, cleverly combining modernity and tradition, and injecting cultural connotation into the building.

Multi-party cooperation and regional influence

The project is located on Isla de la Cartuja in Seville and benefits from close cooperation between the European Commission, the Municipal Government of Seville, the Government of the Autonomous Region of Andalusia and the Spanish National Government. Since the opening of the JRC Seville site in 1994, the research center has become an important pillar of EU policy support, especially in research and analysis in the fields of sustainable development, artificial intelligence and innovation policy.
