1. Breakthrough Tire Wear Particle Analysis Technology: More Precise Environmental Impact Assessment

As environmental regulations become stricter, Tire Wear Particles (TWP) have become a hot topic in the industry. To address this challenge, Continental has partnered with Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany to develop a new-generation tire wear emission analysis method that can monitor tire particle emissions under real-world road conditions. This research, funded by the German Ministry of Science and Culture, introduces real-time air particle analysis technology, making the results more accurate and reliable, and providing a scientific basis for policymaking and environmental regulation.

2. New-Generation Energy Loss Testing Technology: Enhancing Fuel Efficiency and Reducing Carbon Emissions

Energy efficiency is critical in the tire industry, particularly given the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market. Prof. Jorge Lacayo-Pineda, Continental’s materials evaluation expert, will introduce a new rebound testing device at the expo, capable of measuring hysteresis loss (energy loss) in tires with millisecond precision. This provides more accurate data to help tire manufacturers optimize material formulas, improve fuel efficiency, and significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

In addition, Continental’s engineering team will share its latest material technologies, including high-performance rubber compounds and low rolling resistance designs, innovations that enhance tire durability while reducing environmental impact.

3. Eco-Friendly Tire Bonding Technology COKOON: No Phenol, No Formaldehyde, Enhancing Production Sustainability

In traditional tire manufacturing, bonding technologies often use phenol (Resorcinol) and formaldehyde, which can have potential environmental and health impacts. To address this issue, Continental has teamed up with Kordsa, a global supplier of textile reinforcement materials, to develop the COKOON technology - a phenol-free, formaldehyde-free eco-friendly bonding agent that can be widely used in tire manufacturing, ensuring a safer, more sustainable production environment.

“Cross-department collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technology integration are the cornerstone of our sustainable innovation,” Wies stated.

Notably, Continental has open-sourced the COKOON technology and is offering it free of charge to the global tire industry, promoting industry-wide development and fostering a healthier manufacturing environment.
