在邁向碳中和的全球浪潮中，賽車運動亦迎來技術與理念的重大轉型。日本車廠鈴木（Suzuki）正式宣布，其所屬 CN Challenge 團隊已完成全新版本 GSX-R1000R 賽車的開發，並將於 2025 年 鈴鹿 8 小時耐久賽（Suzuka 8 Hours）中，首度以 100% 永續燃料全程參賽，成為全球兩輪賽事永續里程碑。

As the world accelerates toward carbon neutrality, motorsport is undergoing a significant transformation in both technology and philosophy. Japanese automaker Suzuki has officially announced that its CN Challenge team has completed development of a new version of the GSX-R1000R race bike, which will make its debut in the 2025 Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race running entirely on 100% sustainable fuel - a milestone for two-wheeled motorsport sustainability.

從40%到100%，從實驗走向實戰

這並非鈴木首次涉足永續燃料的應用。早在 2024 年，CN Challenge 團隊即於同一場比賽中採用 40% 永續燃料參賽，當時即引發產業關注。2025 年，鈴木則進一步升級，正式使用由 法國道達爾能源（TotalEnergies）提供的 Excellium Racing 100 燃料，達成 100% 永續比例。

From 40% to 100%: Moving from Experiment to Execution

This is not Suzuki’s first foray into sustainable fuel. Back in 2024, the CN Challenge team competed in the same race using 40% sustainable fuel, drawing industry attention. In 2025, Suzuki is taking the next leap, committing fully to Excellium Racing 100, a 100% sustainable fuel supplied by TotalEnergies.

This high-performance, race-grade fuel contains no fossil-derived materials, instead using waste-based feedstocks such as grape pomace from wine production, used cooking oil, and other bio-based by-products from food processing. The fuel not only significantly reduces lifecycle carbon emissions but also matches traditional fuels in power and durability.

Recycled Materials and Innovative Components Join the Race

除了燃料，車輛本體亦體現出永續設計理念。CN Challenge GSX-R1000R 採用了 回收碳纖維製作車身部件，有效降低碳足跡。煞車系統方面，則配置了 Sunstar Engineering 製造的 非熱處理鋼制煞車碟盤，及與 東海碳素（Tokai Carbon）合作開發的 低粉塵煞車來令片，進一步減少賽車活動對環境與空氣品質的衝擊。

Sustainability extends beyond fuel. The CN Challenge GSX-R1000R also features a chassis made from recycled carbon fiber, helping reduce its carbon footprint. For braking, the bike is equipped with non-heat-treated steel brake discs by Sunstar Engineering, and low-dust brake pads co-developed with Tokai Carbon, minimizing environmental and air quality impacts.

These technologies not only support environmental goals but also meet the rigorous technical demands of endurance racing - proving that sustainability doesn’t have to come at the cost of performance.

Sustainable Racing: More Than Just Winning

Suzuki co-CEO and co-founder Christoph Gebald stated, “Our goal is to achieve breakthroughs where environmental responsibility and high performance coexist. Real-world race data will inform and accelerate development of future production models.”

Indeed, by gathering empirical data under extreme racing conditions, Suzuki aims to strengthen its innovation capabilities in sustainable mobility. The race becomes not just a competition, but a testing ground for engineering and a showcase of climate action.

Motorcycle Industry Accelerates Toward Net Zero

Suzuki’s initiative reflects a broader industry shift. According to MotoGP organizer Dorna Sports, all manufacturers competing from 2027 onward must use 100% sustainable fuels. This means leading two-wheeler brands like Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, and KTM will invest heavily in developing sustainable fuel technologies.

Meanwhile, both Europe and Japan have introduced regulations and incentive programs supporting carbon-neutral fuels (e-fuels) and bio-based high-performance fuels, encouraging decarbonization in motorcycles and small combustion engine vehicles. These developments are especially significant for developing countries, where motorcycles remain a primary mode of daily transportation. Here, the technical and economic feasibility of fuel alternatives will directly impact decarbonization efforts.

同時，歐洲與日本也已針對「碳中和燃料（e-fuels）」與「生質基高性能燃料」提出法規與補助機制，推動摩托車與小型內燃引擎運具的低碳轉型。此舉對發展中國家尤具意義，因為該地區仍有大量摩托車作為日常交通工具，燃料替代方案的技術可行性與經濟性將直接影響其減碳路徑。
