Singapore’s leading waste management company Cora Environment (formerly SembWaste) announced on September 11, 2025, a S$200 million (US$147 million) investment over the next five years to upgrade recycling facilities, strengthen green power and water management, and launch a new digital platform providing clients with real-time sustainability and carbon data. The move signifies its transformation from a traditional waste collector to a regional circular-economy enabler.

TBS, which also owns medical and hazardous waste treatment operations, provides Cora with potential future integration and expansion opportunities.

Backed by its new parent company, Cora is pivoting from conventional waste hauling to targeted, sustainable waste management services. Over the past two years, it has piloted a 23-category data-driven waste profiling system to help clients separate recyclables at the source, reducing contamination, cost, and incineration. For example, businesses producing large volumes of plastic can directly channel homogeneous waste to recyclers, streamlining the process and lowering emissions.

Sustainability and Regional Expansion Strategy Cora is collaborating with 14 partners through an accreditation scheme to enhance transparency and traceability in recycling, while exploring regional expansion into Malaysia and Indonesia, leveraging synergies with TBS’s operations. This aligns with Singapore’s push for energy recovery and zero-waste goals, as well as ASEAN’s rising demand for sustainable urban waste solutions.

The S$200 million plan will fund green electricity, advanced water conservation, and digital systems, supporting customers’ ESG compliance and carbon reporting obligations. These efforts directly support Singapore’s Resource Sustainability Act and Zero Waste Masterplan, while reflecting the global shift toward stricter climate and resource regulations such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
