英國首個電器維修折價券試辦計畫啟動

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) has launched the UK’s first trial program offering discount vouchers for electrical repairs. Residents in Hackney, Haringey, and Waltham Forest will be eligible for a 50% discount on repair services, up to a maximum of £50 per voucher.

Funded by the NLWA and run in partnership with The Restart Project, ReLondon, and FixFirst, the initiative aims to make repairs more accessible. Fiona Dear, co-director of The Restart Project, said the program lowers the barrier to repair, promotes a culture of fixing, and supports local repair businesses.

Spring Clean Surge Temporarily Shuts Down Lancashire Recycling Centres

Several recycling centres in Lancashire, including sites in Lancaster, Burnley, and Preston, were temporarily closed over the weekend due to an “unprecedented” surge in public visits triggered by spring cleaning.

Steve Scott, the county's head of waste management, noted that warmer weather prompted the influx. While some sites have now reopened, the rest are expected to resume operations later this week.

The UK organization formerly known as Carpet Recycling UK has rebranded as the UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance (UKSFA), reflecting its expansion beyond carpets to the broader sustainable flooring industry.

CEO Cathie Clarke said the new name signals a stronger role in policy advocacy, innovation, and support for extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation. The alliance aims to reduce the thousands of tonnes of flooring waste generated annually in the UK.

Scottish Waste Firm NWH Reports Record Revenue

NWH, a waste management firm based in Midlothian, Scotland, reported record revenue of £55.4 million for the year ending September, with a 24% increase in operating profit.

The company attributed the growth to the expansion of its trade and construction waste services and the operation of processing sites in Newcastle, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. CFO Nairn Black highlighted long-term investment, customer focus, and a sustainability strategy as key success factors. The company will now focus on innovation and reinforcing its market leadership.

The packaging can be recycled within polyethylene (PE) recycling systems, weighs 15% less than traditional alternatives, and has a 55% lower carbon footprint. It can also incorporate recycled content, aligning with upcoming EU packaging regulations.

Tetra Pak has partnered with logistics packaging firm Schoeller Allibert to develop storage containers made from recycled polyAl, a material derived from used beverage cartons. The new containers can consist of up to 50% polyAl and require no virgin plastic. Tetra Pak’s Swedish site will phase in the use of 50,000 such containers.

The company says the project will help expand markets for recycled materials and reduce dependence on virgin plastics. PolyAl is also being trialed in office furniture applications.

Fast food chain KFC has announced that all 1,000 of its UK locations and 30,000 staff will take part in Keep Britain Tidy’s annual “Great British Spring Clean” litter-picking initiative.
